Trebinje

Hercegovina, surrounded by white stones on the Mediterranean sun is one of the latest oasis of the Old Continent where you can escape from everyday life or have a break and enjoy the fresh air. No matter which way you take to come here, you will always come across magnigicent genuine nature and hospitable people.

Herzegovina is, without any doubt, the latest secret of Europe and Trebinje is one of the places which offer you during the whole year ideal conditions for an active holiday and pleasure.

During its history, due to very specific geo-strategic position, it was always a kind of crossroad where east and west met each other w ith one eye on Mostar and the other one on Dubrovnik. But it succeeded to keep its autonomy for more than 1000 years and also its urban spirit.

The zenith of power and gloss was in the 13th century when in the books it was described as Little Venice. The reason for this is dozens wooden bridges over the river and the fact that it was developed on both riversides.

At the end of the 19th century it bagan to take first signs of European culture. Today it fights to be again part of European heritage.

Hercegovacka Gracanica Church

The church is an exact copy of the Gracanica Church in Kosovo.

Hercegovacka Gracanica was built in 2000 on the hill called Crkvina, 2 kilometers from the town of Trebinje, as fulfillment of wish of Trebinje’s famous poet and diplomat Jovan Ducic. It was built with help of Tupanjac's family.

The museum of Herzegovina

The museum of Herzegovina like any other cultural center of town is heart of artistic treasure. Disposes with 4 standard assumptions, archeological, ethno graphic, one specially dedicated to Ducic and memorial exhibition “Atanasije Popovic”.

Monastery Zavala

Below the mountain Zavala, 30 km on west from Trebinje, the monastery Zavala is located with a church dedicated to Presentation of Saint Virgin Mary.

One part of monastery is covered by the rock that looks like it is carved from stone. The oldest written documents about the monastery are dated 1564 when a Turkish emperor allowed to rebuild the monastery.

Monastery Tvrdoš

Monastery Tvrdoš is dedicated to Assumption of the Holly Mother. The ancient monastery is situated on the river bank. Today it is the seat of Diocese of Zahum and Herzegovina. Monastery Tvrdoš (IV-VI century) 4.5 km from Trebinje on the road to Mostar, is built on the foundations of the old one.

It continues to last from late antiquity, even if repeatedly destroyed and restored. In the 1694, the monastery was most destroyed in the struggles between the Venetians and Turks.

That was when all inventory was in transferred to monastery Savina near Herceg Novi, where it is conserved till today. At the beginning of the sixteenth century the monastery was painted in frescoes by Dubrovnik painters Vicko Lovrov and monk Marko Stefanov from Trebinje. In the first half of the sixteenth century monastery Tvrdoš was the biggest script workshop of the Slavic south, and at the same time was the cultural and spiritual center of the wider area.

Perovica (Arslanagica) Bridge

This is one of the most valuable cultural monuments in this region. The monument was endowment of Mehmed pasa Sokolovic, and it is one of the oldest buildings in Trebinje.

St. Basil

Saint Father Basil, called Ostroski, was born in Herzegovina, in the village Mrkonjic in Popovo Polje. In this village, through the stone houses destroyed by a tooth of time, a new church was built in 1997on the ruins of the house where St. Basil of Ostrog and Tvrdoš were born.

Monastery of saint apostles Peter and Pavle

It is located 3km on south from Trebinje. The most interesting thing about this place is a cave of Petar and Pavle in the hills above the monastery.

Vjeternica Cave

Not far from Trebinje, in village Zavala you can see a unique nature, karst cave, 6m long, which will take your breath away.

Legend says  that in this cave was a lurking place of fays and sprites.

Temperature of 11C, constant, in hot summer days will make your stay in it very pleasant. Here, you can see a unique cave’s decoration and  small lakes with rare species, like olm.

Monastery Duzi


Monastery is situated in the village of Duzi, 7 km from Trebinje, on the road from Trebinje to Dubrovnik. It’s made in recent period (in 18th  century). It was found after destruction of monastery Tvrdos, where for certain period place of Herzegovinian bishops. It had been destroyed several times.

Strac - the old Austrian military fortification

Strac is situated on south-east of Trebinje. It is was said that it had 365 rooms with walls more than 1m thick. All rooms were  adjunkted  by special system of fresh air and water supply-rain was held in big containers within the fortress.

Bilecko lake

Bilecko lake on river Trebisnjica, near Bileca, in Bosnia and Herzegovina, is the biggest artificial acummulation on Balkans. Surface of the lake is about 33km², depending on water level.

On the bottom of the lake lays an abandoned village which was evacuated during the construction of hydro electric power plant. The biggest water depth is 104m on 400m altitude upon sea.

 

Dejan Bodiroga camp

The aim of the camp is to transfer knowledge of old Yugoslav basketball school which was one of the best in the world and Trebinje was chosen because of many first class players who were born here or have their origins here.

Jovan Ducic (1871-1943)

Jovan Ducic, a famous Serbian poet was born at Trebinje. He left a town with a rich collection of artistic items. Every year in the beginning of November the Days of Ducic’s poetry are he held.

Mostar

Mostar is a cultural and economic center of Herzegovina. It was named after the bridge keepers (Mostar), on the banks of the Neretva river. The town was built around  the old bridge built in the vicinity of the former chain bridge in 1566.. From that period and later periods there are many monuments of culture.

Here, you'll feel the spirit of times gone by, and a mixture of eastern and western cultures. Its mild climate, is created by mountains that  protect the city Velež, Čabulja and Hum. Mostar is after Athens, the town with the most sunny days per year, and snow is a really rare in Mostar.

 

Herceg Novi

At very important and attractive area between the mountain carsic massif, Orjent (1,895 m) and the entrance in one of the most beautiful bay of the world, the Bay of Kotor, it’s situated Herceg Novi.

The center of Herceg Novi is an old town which is circulated by the building from various epochs of history. Sahat - Tower (1667), Kanli-Tower (1483), Fortress Spanjola (1538) and Forte - Mare (1687) are part of the cultural heritage of this famous city.

Rich vegetation of Herceg Novi hides numerous kinds of tropical flowers. Herceg Novi is a city known for its mimosa and numerous stairs. This is the city of "sunset" because of a large number of sunny days in the year.

At the end of January will be held Mimosa Fest, and during the summer months there are festivals that further enrich the tourist offer of this magic place.

Kotor

Located in one of the most beautiful bay of the world, Kotor, a city of traders and famous sailors has so much to tell. The old town of Kotor is the best-preserved medieval urban environment typical of the cities made in the XII and XIV century.

Two thousand years of its history have left traces in every stone of its buildings, towers and walls, paintings, frescoes, in the records on the stone and paper, in all portals and its narrow streets.

Medieval architecture and numerous monuments of cultural heritage include the Kotor in UNESCO's list of "World Natural and Cultural Heritage". Through the entire city buildings are interwoven with streets and squares. On one of them is the Cathedral of St. Tripun, a monument of roman culture and one of the most recognizable symbols of the town.

Carnivals and festivals are organized each year, at the most beautiful city of the Montenegrin coast, provide additional magic. Simply, Kotor is not to be missed.

Dubrovnik

The ancient city from the seventh century, today fancy summer resort, delights with its Mediterranean beauty and simplicity. Dubrovnik is a city of unique political and cultural history, world-famous cultural heritage and beauty (inscribed in UNESCO's register of world cultural heritage).

Tara river rafting

Tara river canyon is 1333 meters deep as it is the deepest in Europe, and the second in the world, after the Colorado River Canyon. The Tara is 146.4 km long, with an average fall of 4.5 m / km, with a basin area of about 1853 km ². Most of the Tara river (including the canyon) is under UNESCO protection as a part of the National Park Durmitor. This river is ideal for floating, rafting and fishing (especially near Kolašin, where it is ideal for fly -fishing).

 

Medjugorje

The place where appeared the reflection of the Mother of God, has become a famous religious center and place of prayer and peace for all believers and worshipers of Christianity.

Monastery Ostrog

Monastery Ostrog is a monastery of the Serbian Orthodox Church, located along the almost vertical cliff, high on the mountain Beam of Ostrog in Montenegro. It is dedicated to St. Basil of Ostrog.

It is located near Niksic, and is situated in the vertical rock, which gives beautful view on the valley Bjelopavlici. It was founded by Bishop Basil of Herzegovina in the 17th century. He is buried there, and declared miraculous.. His body rests in the shrine in cave- church. The monastery was renovated 1923-1926 afer a fire. Today they are of big monumental value.
